One important thing to realize though is that Muldrotha is a magnet for removal if there ever was one. There are a lot of important cards for Muldy in general that also help with this matchup, and almost all of them are dirt cheap.Muldrotha is so fun, and probably my favorite commander. I'll check back later and will keep an eye on the Muldrotha Discord later today to see if you joined. The good news is that you have the capacity to reverse the roles if you understand what you're doing. Failing to do so early on allows Niv to dumpster a Muldrotha deck, which seems to be what you're experiencing.

The gameplan against him often resolves around the early game as you try to sneak in said removal pieces onto your battlefield underneath early game countermagic as Niv sets up mana, which is incredibly important for Niv as requires strict setup. We both also have more of the same to protect our commanders. Muldrotha has a ton of permanents that can sacrifice themselves to kill Niv in ways that get around his "can't be countered" clause that make it nearly impossible for him to stick once we resolve Muldy, and Niv obviously turns into counterspell city once he resolves and he can just keep blasting Muldy. I will quickly say that Niv Mizzet is a very top-heavy matchup for us and everything often comes down to who lets who resolve and untap with their commander first. There are plenty of very experienced Muldrotha players there, both casual and competitive, who can help you. I need to drive to work so I can't say much now, but you should join the Muldrotha Discord. ] is a bit of a risk, because it's kill ability does require that you have multiple artifacts in play, so its usefulness is entirely decklist dependent.

] costs a fair amount of mana, but she can blow up any creature and prevents regeneration if that's relevant in your meta. ] requires that you have a creature to sacrifice, but is just as happy to sacrifice itself.

] is.really weird and sets you back 3 basic lands to even cast it, but it's an unconditional way to kill a creature, even getting around the usual "nonblack" requirement that some of the other cards I've mentioned have. ] requires you to discard a card to kill something, which is actually an upside in your deck. ] lets you blow up a creature if you have delirium (again, very easy to achieve in a graveyard deck). ] does require that you have more creatures in your graveyard than your opponents, but that's pretty easy to set up. If you're concerned about getting steamrolled by Niv-Mizzet combos (I've been there, I feel you), might I also consider taking another look at your removal? ], ] and ] are all noncreature permanents that a Muldrotha deck can kill a creature at instant speed under pretty much any condition. ] does the same thing, but has the added benefit of also being a way to mill yourself. ], ], and ] are all permanents that can put both your graveyard (including themselves I believe) back into your library at instant speed. ] and ] function similarly, although they provide a wincon in the form of tokens.Īdditionally, there are actually a few cards that Muldrotha can cast which can help prevent your graveyard from getting exiled (albeit by shuffling it into your library, but at least you'll be able to mill them again). And because his ability triggers even if the cards in your graveyard get exiled, he makes nuking your graveyard a lot more dangerous. Probably running more counters/interaction can also help, but it's a bit tough to suggest stuff more specifically without your deck list. This will probably get you some more wins. Using ], ], the seals effects and other repeatable interaction let you strip your opponents resources down while keeping your stuff almost untouched. With that said, there are A LOT of GY loop combos if you'd like to go for that route. I think this is more important than changing only your wincons (I might be wrong since I don't have a decklist). My advice would be to get out a bit from the GY plan, build it in a way that you can comfortably play without muldrotha on the field and use it to grind people down eventually. This is powerful if it goes unanswered, but makes it kinda shitty if your opponents are answering it. So, muldrotha players tend to build their decks focusing solely on muldrotha as Card Advantage.
